About VRISG

Vinmec Research Institute of Stem Cell and Gene Technology (VRISG) is a non-profit biomedical research institute of VinUniversity led by Prof. Nguyen Thanh Liem, MD, PhD. VRISG was officially established in October 2016, building on the significant achievements of the Vinmec Stem Cell and Gene Technology Center founded in March 2014.

VRISG is a strategic research center dedicated to the discovery, development, and application of transformative cell and gene therapies for unmet medical needs. Driven by the motto “Innovate and Innovate Further,” VRISG strives to become a leading institution for biomedical and regenerative medicine research.

VINMEC HEALTHCARE SYSTEM

Vinmec Research Institute of Stem Cell and Gene Technology was established as a core research and innovation (R&D) component in the Vinmec Healthcare System’s strategy to develop academic medicine. Therefore, the collaborative relationship between VRISG and Vinmec is a close “institute–hospital” partnership, or bench-t0-bedside in term of translational technology, in which Vinmec serves as the clinical and implementation platform, while VRISG acts as the hub for research, technology development, and process standardization to translate scientific advances into medical applications.

NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF HEMATOLOGY AND BLOOD TRANSFUSION (NIHBT)

VRISG and NIHBT establish a collaborative research partnership to strengthen clinical research and improve outcomes for patients with hematologic (blood) diseases. This collaboration integrates scientific research capacity with specialized hematology services to ensure high-quality, ethical, and patient-centered studies.

NATIONAL CHILDREN HOSPITAL

As a research unit within VinUni, VRISG collaborates closely with the National Children’s Hospital to connect VinUni’s academic strengths with NCH’s leading expertise in pediatric healthcare. This partnership advances healthcare research, education, and clinical practice, with a particular focus on pediatric medicine and related fields. Through joint initiatives, VRISG and NCH pursue collaborative studies that strengthen evidence-based approaches to patient selection, clinical care, and treatment strategies, while supporting the development and evaluation of innovative healthcare solutions.

CENTER FOR RESEARCH AND PRODUCTION OF VACCINES AND BIOLOGICALS (POLYVAC)

VRISG maintains a strong collaboration with POLYVAC to advance the development of vaccines and biological products. Through the collaboration, VRISG have worked on preclinical studies that evaluate the safety and therapeutic efficacy of candidate products in non-human primate (monkey) models, generating critical evidence to support product optimization and translational readiness.

VIETNAM MILITARY MEDICAL ACADEMY (VMMA)

Through a strategic partnership with VMMA, VRISG strengthens its translational research capabilities, particularly in the critical preclinical phase. Leveraging VMMA’s extensive expertise in advanced animal models, this collaboration allows us to rigorously validate the safety and efficacy of our cell- and gene-based therapies before they reach human trials. This synergy ensures that our innovations are robust and clinically ready.

VIETNAM ASSOCIATION FOR REGENERATIVE MEDICINE AND CELL THERAPY (VARC)

VRISG actively collaborates with VARC to elevate the standards of the field nationwide. This partnership positions us at the forefront of the medical community, allowing us to contribute to the establishment of ethical guidelines, standardized clinical protocols, and professional training. By fostering a vibrant network of experts and sharing cutting-edge insights, we help drive the collective growth of the regenerative medicine ecosystem while ensuring our own innovations meet the highest regulatory benchmarks.
